I’m a very different sort of person than Lydia, so I can’t say that I related to her on a really deep level. At that point, I found my mind wandering more than it had at other places in the book, and I felt that the previous wittiness had either lost some it’s edge or had started to wear thin on me.

She does have some family ties to Dain the hero of Lord of Scoundrelsand has watched him from afar for years. It is one of the best romances I’ve ever read, probably ever will, and one I will continue to read again and again. Unlike some of LC’s other stories, this has a Dickensian number of characters, hte of whom drive different aspects of the multifaceted plot forward. But the thriller byplay is allowed to somewhat overshadow the romance — probably to fatten up the book but it was more an irritant than a genuinely enthralling suspense.
